On February 13, the Criminal Justice Club members attended the CEO Roundtable, organized by the Alumni Relations Department. Hosted by AROPE Group Limited, a leading privately held background screening and security services company based in Nairobi, the session provided students with mentorship, career exposure, and practical learning.
During the visit, they dove headfirst into a mentorship session that also incorporated career exposure and industry-academia linkages. This was more than just a visit; it served as an information session for future criminal justice practitioners, reminding the students of the importance of having integrity as a value.
AROPE Group stands out as a leader in delivering affordable, high-integrity screening services. Their core business is to ensure that the people organizations have employed, are about to employ, or engage with, are exactly who they claim to be, and have the capacity and qualifications to deliver on commitments they have made, or positions they are about to hold. Operating within legal frameworks, they protect privacy while upholding the highest professional standards.
The session kicked off with a warm welcome from Victoria Mulwa, CPP, PSP, PCI, Chief Executive Officer of AROPE Group, who delivered a practical overview of security and background checks. The students were further taken through the process of verifying identities and documents, as well as the implications of having fake personas or fake credentials. “In today’s landscape,” Mulwa asserted. “It is very important to guard your identity card,” she concluded. Her presentation resonated with the club members, showing how criminal justice concepts that they learned in class, like due diligence and ethical investigation, translate directly to corporate success.
Students also benefited from insights shared by Munene Githira, Chief Executive Officer of PIPO Brands, who emphasized that young people should not just solve problems, but also ensure that their solutions have value for the market. They also explored the power of brand promotion, visibility, and engagement, urging us to brand ourselves as integrity-driven professionals in a competitive world.
The session ended with a practical demonstration, document verification, screening, and authenticity checks. It was eye-opening how much truth hides in plain sight. One takeaway for the entire session was that professionals should strive for integrity and honesty in every transaction, and everyone should guard their ID like a vault.
