On February 19-21, the Dolphins Swim Club (USIDO) was crowned champions at the Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) Indoor Games Playoffs held at Kabarak University. This follows their outstanding performance at the tournaments that brought together teams from all over Kenya, including Strathmore and Mount Kenya Universities. The team showcased exceptional skill in backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle categories.
The women’s team dominated the long-distance and butterfly disciplines. They showed resilience and competitiveness, claiming the gold medals in almost all of their categories. They performed well in both the long-distance and short-distance events, retaining their position as the Best Female Team in East Africa.
The men’s individual performances were equally competitive, characterized by high-ranking finishes in the backstroke and freestyle sprints. The team earned first place and second place in both the 50m and 100m Backstroke, Freestyle, and Butterfly categories, establishing their dominance in these categories. They also participated in the long-distance events, finishing in podium places in all the categories.
A significant highlight of the championships was the dominance of the USIU-Africa relay teams. They won the 4x50m Medley Relay with a time of 2:08.34 and also teamed up to take another first-place finish in 1:48.76. The women’s relay team won both relays with exceptional times, helping the team’s medal tally to increase, putting USIU-Africa in the spotlight.
At the end of the tournament, the Dolphins were crowned champions with a medal tally of 54. There were 30 Gold Medals, 14 Silver Medals, and 12 Bronze Medals. This victory provided a substantial boost to the team’s overall morale and underscored the collective strength of the Dolphins’ training program and team spirit.
