Prof. Yasodha Krishna Janapati: Advancing excellence in pharmaceutical education, research, and innovation

Professor Yasodha Krishna Janapati is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy in the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. With over 19 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, Prof. Janapati has established a successful career dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical education, research excellence, and innovation.

Prof. Janapati holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as a postgraduate, undergraduate, and a diploma in pharmacy. During his academic journey, he demonstrated early academic excellence by securing an All India Rank of 505 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), a highly competitive national examination, and 19th rank in state level exam for the Bachelor of Pharmacy entrance. He was also a recipient of prestigious academic scholarships and fellowships, which supported his advanced training and research career.

His academic journey spans reputable institutions in India, Ethiopia, and Kenya, where he has served in progressively senior roles, including Principal, Program Lead, and Associate Professor. At USIU-Africa, he provides strategic leadership to the pharmacy program, contributing to curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and academic governance, while also serving on key university committees.

A passionate educator, Prof. Janapati has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Design, Pharmaceutical Quality Control, and Instrumental Methods of Analysis. He is deeply committed to student-centered learning, providing personalized support and mentorship to ensure students receive professional guidance throughout their academic journey. He has supervised numerous PhD, Master of Pharmacy, and Bachelor of Pharmacy research projects, nurturing the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists and healthcare professionals. He also trains pharmaceutical industrial technicians under the Dual Vocational Training Program, which is carried out by the German organization Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and funded by the Centre for Export and Investment Promotion Agency (CEPIA), to address the critical skills gap in East Africa’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.

His research interests encompass drug discovery and design, research on herbal and natural products, nano-based drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical quality evaluation, and preclinical disease models. An accomplished scholar, Prof. Janapati has established undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories equipped with modern teaching aids to maximize the learning ability of students. In addition to the above, he has published more than 40 articles in reputed journals, 1 Book, and 7 book chapters, an h-index of 12, and high-impact outputs featured in journals such as Vaccine, Tissue Barriers, Animal Model Experimental Medicine, NeuroQuantology, and Coronaviruses. Guided 17 Master of Pharmacy, 2 PhD scholars in their research programs, 2 patents, a life member for various professional organizations, editor and reviewer for various journals.  Presently, he is working as an associate editor for Frontiers Pharmacology on the topic “Innovative Therapeutic Strategies for Managing Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) and Mitigating Associated Complications.”

Prof. Janapati has received multiple recognitions for excellence in teaching and academic leadership, including the Excellence in Teaching – Best Faculty (Clinical) Award at the Pharmacy @10 Commemorative Dinner. In 2024, he was honored with the Best Academician – Academic Excellence Award by the International Journal of Multidisciplinary Educational Research and the Intellectual of the Year Award by Rifacimento International.

Prof. Janapati is an invited speaker, reviewer, and academic contributor at conferences, workshops, and professional forums. His dedication to academic excellence, leadership, and innovation continues to make a meaningful impact on USIU-Africa’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates and impactful research.
