Overview

The program’s primary goal is to prepare graduates to practice as effective counselors in a wide variety of settings. The graduate student is required to integrate theoretical and research-based knowledge combined with therapeutic skills, as well as personal characteristics to become an ethical, professional and compassionate counselor.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the degree program, graduates should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competency in various counselling theories and therapeutic techniques required of counselling psychologists.
  2. Evaluate professional standards of practice relative to multicultural populations.
  3. Conduct research in counseling psychology.
  4. Use APA guidelines in academic writing and presentations.
  5. Apply current professional standards of ethics, values and laws relevant to the practice of psychology.
  6. Apply psychotherapeutic theories and techniques to assist diagnosis and provide treatment with diverse clients.

Admission Requirements

The applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Graduate application and other required documents indicated on the application form.

  2. BA Psychology degree or closely related field is required, from an accredited university.

  3. BA degree in non-psychology field requires completion of psychology pre-requisite course work prior to full admission.

  4. An interview with Counseling Psychology faculty.
