Professor Betty Mbatia, Associate Professor of Biochemistry (Industrial Biotechnology) and Chair of the Department of Pure and Biomedical Sciences, is a testament to this commitment.<\/p>

As the world marks this year\u2019s International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, under the theme: Synergizing AI, Social Science, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls<\/em>,<\/strong> USIU-Africa celebrates Prof. Mbatia, an educator, researcher, and academic leader in science who has mentored and inspired many.<\/p>

Her research activities are geared towards improving environmental and human health, human nutrition, and experiential and entrepreneurship-based learning in Biochemistry. Her recent works include value addition to agricultural waste, plant-derived antimicrobials and sunscreens, bioremediation, functional food development, and transformative teaching through integration of the Junior Company pedagogy in undergraduate teaching, a model supported under the Erasmus+ Program.<\/p>

She has several peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and has successfully guided research for several undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students to completion. Prof Mbatia has received research grants as PI or Co-PI from several donors, the most recent one being the Foundational Learning Research Grant for Researchers in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and Zambia.<\/p>

Prof. Mbatia has served and is still serving as an external examiner in selected universities and has reviewed Biochemistry and Industrial Biotechnology undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Kenya and Namibia. She is a listed reviewer by the National Biosafety Authority, Kenya, and registered by the Commission of University Education, as a resource person for the provision of peer review services in curriculum evaluation, academic institutional review, research, and consultancy.\u00a0<\/p>

She is a registered member of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Professionals Society of Kenya, where she has also served as vice chair. Prof. Mbatia has also served as a member of the Board of Management in selected primary and high schools in Kenya.<\/p>

Prof. Mbatia’s academic drive is anchored in equipping learners with real-world skills by translating biochemistry and biotechnology research into practical solutions while advancing innovative, inclusive, and experiential teaching.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
